Our Mentors

Our mentor volunteers are right at the heart of Life Chance Trust’s work, offering their experience, expertise and time to support our young people. In strict alphabetical order, meet our team!

Aaron

I live in Newton Abbot and have worked with young people across Devon for 9 years. I am a keen gym goer and enjoy my fitness both for mental and physical health benefits. I am an all-in type of person, and believe we either win or we learn in life! I love stepping outside my comfort zone and feel I can always do better, be better and want better as I grow on my journey. I joined Life Change Trust to give something back to young people, whom I have spent my professional career supporting and mentoring. My area of expertise is mental health and wellbeing and I am a true advocate for feeling good and the importance of being who we truly are, regardless of who or where we find ourselves in life.

Hobbies and interests: Fitness, Stepping outside my comfort zone, Rugby.

“I am passionate about ensuring that everyone gets a second chance, with the support and guidance they need.”

Alex

I live in Newton Abbot with my family, my dippy dog and my cuddly cat. I’m a renewable energy engineer some of the week, and for the rest of the week I volunteer with Life Chance Trust and THAT Foodbank. I enjoy rugby and going out running, and really love being outdoors enjoying nature. I also love food and reading in my spare time. I joined Life Chance Trust because through my own experiences, I felt I could proactively contribute to their cause and the young people they support. I look forward to meeting you and building a support relationship that helps you move forward.

Hobbies and interests: Running, Being outside in nature, Rugby.

Danny

I live in Exmouth with my wife. I have 3 grown-up children and 4 grandchildren. I’m a plumber by profession and have spent most of my adult life doing this – but I also LOVE music and have spent many years around the festival scene. I recently found myself at a point in my life where I wanted a change in direction and new challenges. This is why I volunteer with Life Chance Trust as a mentor – the thought of helping others and making a difference to someone’s life is a new challenge I’m looking forward to!

Hobbies: Music, DJ-ing, Spending time with my family.

“Making a positive difference is what I’m looking forward to!”

Helga

I live in Teignmouth, and am an entrepreneur, having had many successful businesses in the hospitality, tourism and retail sectors. I am interested in helping people find what inspires them and helping them to follow their dreams. I have helped many past employees and friends to start their own businesses. I enjoy watching films, being in nature and spending time with my family. I had a tough time at school growing up and was always told I would amount to nothing – I know that a bit of encouragement when I was younger would have made a huge difference!

Hobbies and interests: Creative writing, Food & cooking, Cold water swimming.

“I am an optimist – there’s always good if you look for it.”

Michelle

I live in Exeter with my husband – I have 2 daughters and 3 grandchildren. I work full time at a hospital, which I really enjoy. I also love looking after my grandchildren, spending time with my husband, watching rugby and going out with my friends – those things are what make me happy! I like to mentor because when I was growing up and things were happening, I felt I had no one to go to. I wish I’d had someone to talk to and help me understand what was happening. As an adult, I have had some bad times, but I would like to encourage young people to be survivors and not victims.

Hobbies and interests: Watching Rugby, Reading Chick-Lit, Friends & Family.

Shelley

I live in Newton Abbot with my two (almost) teenage children and our two cats. Going out with my friends makes me happy, and live music and dancing is definitely my thing! When I’m not doing that, I’ll be at the rugby or having chill-out time at home with my children and a good Netflix series. I had a tough time growing up with a difficult home life and not understanding who I was. I wish I’d had someone in my corner to support me and help me process my feelings – that’s why I decided to become a mentor.

Hobbies and interests: Music and dancing, Watching rugby, Friends & Family.

“Music and dancing is definitely my thing.”
