C – CASE STUDY

C CASE STUDY

A young person who due to trauma, found it difficult to leave the house alone. Creative with an eye for interior design and love of animals.

MENTORED BY SHELLEY

Background
Childhood trauma for this young person involved being abducted by her Dad and taken out of the country. Also, diagnosed with PTSD, emetophobia, anxiety and depression,

C found it very difficult to leave the house without her Mum. She attended a specialist provision which supported her in the home and now was not in education, employment or training. She also struggled with sleeping and eating.

Mentoring
Sessions with Shelley and C always had to have the support of Mum. C found it really hard to open up to Shelley and talk openly and freely. Sessions were hit and miss, with C’s anxiety affecting her differently everyday. C and her Mum had ideas of what she would like to do for her future and education, however, it was apparent that C needed the support to build her confidence. Shelley supported C a lot around sleep patterns and how to improve her routines. C started to open up to Shelley and was starting to identify her emotions. C established in herself that she had ’different parts of her’. This helped direct their sessions talking about coping strategies and triggers for these different parts.

With Shelleys consistent approach, and after 7 sessions, they managed to have a session together without Mums support.

“Thank-you for all your support with my daughter. Her confidence has grown since receiving her mentoring. You have been super understanding and adaptable to our situation and we couldn’t have asked for more from you. We are very grateful.”

Where are they now
With the support of Life Chance Trust, C was signposted to CSW to help support her with education and her new EHCP.

C found she was sleeping a lot better by putting in a good sleeping routine and waking up earlier in the mornings.

She is trying new foods and is on the waiting list for intense CBT.

Card, sweets and a ‘someone special’ plaque received from C and her Mum.
